An end of 2024 update on the Dale Seagrass Project from the Project Seagrass team:
Following scientific monitoring in the autumn, it was exciting to find that the seagrass within the restoration area was growing well, with average number of shoots per clump increasing from around 13 shoots in 2023 to 22 in 2024 – meaning that clumps of seagrass are growing larger with the potential to patch together to form a meadow. The average number of shoots across the restoration area had also increased, and some seagrass had expanded further west inshore. The natural area of seagrass in the Frenchman’s Bay area is also doing well, possibly supported by seeds being transported by water currents from the restoration area.
In 2025, we have some exciting plans to enhance the seagrass within the restoration area through planting seagrass transplants from our seagrass nursery over in Laugharne – working with the local freediving club to deliver this.
